Horseback Safari

Our aim is to offer our guests an intimate and personal experience, affording them the best that East Africa has to offer in terms of the African 'Bush'. Our safaris are highly personalised, very much ‘off the beaten track’ and away from human settlement. You will be accompanied on all rides and activities by your hosts ensuring that your riding holiday will be a truly memorable one.

We, your hosts, are both veterinarians and ensure the condition of the horses. Even in challenging circumstances in the bush the condition of the horses is superb. Rides are at all paces where the terrain permits. The horses are Warm blood, some Arab and Thoroughbred and X, all ridden with bitless tack in a loose rein and relaxed style.

The food is always prepared fresh and most of the ingredients are produced on the farm. This includes most vegetables, meat, milk and milk products. Expect to find freshly home baked bread on your table every morning, as well as homemade pastries in the afternoon.

The itinerary you choose depends totally on your interests and the number of hours you wish to spend in the saddle.

There are different scheduled rides with set dates available. If you inquire as a group then please let us know your wishes and we will create the itinerary which suits your ideas the best.

If you are interested in nature, scenery and good riding then please check the Cross Country itinerary, which is a combination of a Makoa-Farm holiday in comfortable rooms and a short horseback safari to the Hot Springs with the mobile camp.

The diversity of Tanzania unfolds before us as we ride across the Maasai Steppe to the ecological wonder of the Kukulewa Hot Springs. We will pass through villages on our way and will ride over farm- and bushland.
Colourful bird life abounds and small game such as dwarf antelope, Vervet and Sykes monkey or Yellow baboon can be seen. A pack of banded mongoose might pass foraging next to our picnic table and during walks we often spot crocodiles and monitor lizards. Enjoy the adventure of sleeping in the bush surrounded by sounds of the African wilderness.

This trip is perfect for the medium to experienced rider and can easily be added to the beginning or end of your other safari plans in Tanzania.
